Equipment for Content Creation: A Practical Setup Guide for Business Owners
Building my podcast, The Business Behind Your Business, into what it is today has been an incredible journey. What began as a COVID lockdown project—born from a desire to support fellow small business owners—has grown into an ongoing exploration of what really drives business success. I’ve had the privilege of featuring a wide range of guests, from local entrepreneurs to international experts, and we’re now closing in on two exciting milestones: 180 episodes and five years of production.
Along the way, one question keeps coming up from other business owners: What kind of setup do you use? So I thought I’d share some of the behind-the-scenes details here. If you’re considering launching a podcast or creating video content for your business, it can feel a bit daunting—especially when it comes to choosing the right equipment.
My own setup has changed a lot over the years. I’ve learned through experience (and the occasional misstep!) what works and what doesn’t. The good news? You don’t need high-end gear to get started. Begin with what you can afford, learn as you go, and upgrade over time. That said, if you’re in a position to invest in just one high-quality item early on, I recommend making it your microphone. Clear, professional audio can elevate your content and help build trust with your audience.
Here’s how I’ve structured my setup:

Although the podcast began as audio-only, expanding to YouTube has brought a new level of energy and opportunity—helping us reach a wider audience and engage in a more dynamic way.
